Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925) is a world renowned, respected and well-published scientific, literary, and philosophical scholar, particularly known for his work on Goethe's scientific writings. At the beginning of the twentieth century, he began to develop his earlier philosophical principles into an approach to methodical research of psychological and spiritual phenomena. His multifaceted genius has led to innovative and holistic approaches to medicine, philosophy, religion, education (Waldorf schools), special education (Camphill schools), economics, agriculture (Biodynamics), science, architecture, and a renewal of the arts (drama, speech, painting, sculpture and eurythmy). In 1924 he founded the General Anthroposophical Society with its home (the Goetheanum) located in Dornach, Switzerland, and branches throughout the world. Much is yet to be discovered, learned and researched through his life's work.

Our History

In Sept. 1975, the late Ronald F. Moss arranged the first public Anthroposophical lecture in Seattle.

This was followed by a weekly group meeting to study the work of Rudolf Steiner starting with his lecture cycle, the Gospel of St. John.

Then in 1976, Mr. Moss opened the Dr. Rudolf Steiner Book Store in the basement of his home.  The store was open, by appointment, to any one at any time except when he took the books to local fairs and events.

The bookstore initiative was the foundation for all future public Anthroposophic activity in Seattle starting with the founding of the Seattle Waldorf School, in 1980, by the combined efforts of Mr. Moss and Dolores Rose Dauenhauer.  In 1981, a non-profit  501(c) 3  organization, Friends of Anthroposophia was established, it is now known as Center for Anthroposophical Endeavors (CFAE).

On October 6, 1996, Mr. Moss returned home and the bookstore plus his private library went to DoloresRose Dauenhauer as he wished. The store was operated out of the newly remodeled Dauenhauer basement until June 24, 2005 when it opened in its present location, is non-profit through CFAE and run voluntarialy. From basement to retail shop, three blocks from the Seattle Waldorf School, took 29 years.
